More than century in paint business.
XIX Century
Factory was founded in Riga in apr. 1890 on the left bank of Daugava River. At this time it was named 'Leopold Kassels & Co'. Aniline dyes were main products at the very beginning of production activity.
XX Century
1930 Company was bought by local businessman Martins Kalnins and renamed to 'Chemical plant of Martin Kalnins' with brand name 'Nitra'.
Main products:
- natural iron ore powder facade paints
- oil paints
- inorganic pigments
- wood impregnants
- washing powders
1940.
Company was nationalized by the Soviet Government.
1950-1960.
Plant was included in to the chemical industry infrastructure administered by Chemical Ministry of USSR. Production facilities were modernized and new product groups were launched ... (mainly for industrial application).
1970-1990.
Company became one of leading in following market niches of USSR:
- alkyd and urethane/alkyd paints.
- Primers for agriculture machinery and equipment;
- Electrophoretic (electrodeposition) primers for automotive industry;
- Polyester lacquers and enamels for furniture and joinery industry;
- Zinc white pigment;
- Marine paints.
1996.
Company was *ins Kalnins- son of company founder is one of shareholders.
XXI Century.
'Riga Varnish and Paint Plant' is leading paint manufacturer in Baltic States region.
- with number of employees - 240;
- more than 50% of paints are exported to Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Ukraina, Belorussia and other countries.
- Direct deliveries to almost any point of Latvia +10 own company shops in Latvia.
- Warehouse and distribution center in Tallinn with sales team dedicated to Estonian market.
- Broad network of distributors in Lithuania.
- Distributors in Ukraine and Russia.
- Own RD center with more than 10 technicians dedicates to new product development.
- In 2000 company was certified accordingly to ISO 9001:2000 standard.
- From 2003 company joined international program 'Responsible Care'
