Ritver Epoxy Top Coat
Ritver Epoxy Top Coat

General product information
Ritver Epoxy Top coat is a High build top coat based on a selected epoxy resin and forms a two component product with a suitable virtue of the epoxy resin it has excellent resistance to mild acids, bases and other chemicals. It has outstanding mechanical properties combined with good flow and is very easy to apply. Can be an ideal top coat where normal alkyd based topcoat systems cannot be recommended.Substrates: Masonry, Concrete & Steel structures, pipes with suitable primers.
Area of Use: Mainly in the Automotive industry and for steel.
Finish:: Smooth/ Glossy.
Colour: Any colour as per Ritver shade card. (Due to chemical nature of the Epoxy Resin small variations in colour of finished products is common).
Specific gravity:: Comp A: 1.4 0.05 (depending on colour) , Comp B: 0.9 0.05 (Mix App 1.26)
Mixed Solids (% by volume):: 45 2
Mixing Ratio:: 3 : 1 (Component A: Component B vol / vol)
Pot Life:: App 4 - 5 hour (at 30C).
Diluent :: Ritver Epoxy Thinner
Flash point:: 27c (mixed)
Spread Rate:
While the spread rate is directly dependant on the surface profile and also the type of undulations it has, as a thumb rule Ritver Epoxy Top coat would cover 8 to 10 sq. meters per lit.
Drying Time (30 C) : Set to touch: 3 hours.
: Ready for Recoat: app 6 - 8 hours.
: Full cure : app 7 days.
Recommended DFT : App 40 80 mic per coat. Depending on the degree of protection.
A good surface preparation and following the method statement / recommended system procedure of Ritver is an ideal recommendation for the application of Ritver Epoxy Top coat.
For Metals:
In case of mild conditions of application, remove the previous coat with a mechanical tool, wire mesh, or a mild sweep blast is to be done.
In case of detailed Surface preparation is warranted, remove all wax, oil and grease should be removed by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by SSPC-SP1. Where necessary remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a smooth surface. Ideally abrasive blast clean to a minimum standard of Sa 2- Swedish Standard SIS 05 59 00 or ISO 8501-1:1988. Any surface defects revealed by blast cleaning should be ground, filled or treated in a suitable manner. After blasting, remove dust from the surface. The surface to be coated must be clean and dry with Ritver Epoxy Primer followed by Ritver Epoxy Top coat.
For Aluminium: Degrease and abrade with Ritver Epoxy Thinner and wet-or-dry paper. Apply Ritver Etch Primer. Immediately follow with Ritver epoxy top coat.
For Concrete: Ensure that the surface is sound. Remove laitance by thorough wire brushing, acid etching or sweep blasting. Blowholes and other defects should be filled with suitable filler. Ritver Epoxy Top coat may be applied with an Ritver Epoxy primer.
Exclusions for successful application include perpetually wet surfaces and also large cavities on metal and concrete surfaces.
Adequate ventilation is an ideal situation as it helps in drying and the good application itself. Avoid high humid conditions i.e., 95% when condensation is likely to interfere and also when the surface temperature is at least 3c above dew point.
Mix Part A and B in the recommended ratio thoroughly until uniform taking care that no excess air bubbles are formed.
To be done by Airless spray 2000-2300 psi. Nozzle size: 0.015-0.018 inches or conventional spray at 50 60 psi. It can even be done with a roller. The product can be rolled or It is generally recommended to give a mist coat followed by a full coat.
A normal brush or a roller may be used for difficult shapes or touchup; however, additional coats may be required to achieve the recommended film thickness. The method of application is recommended for stripe coating welds, edges, rivets etc.
One can add Ritver Epoxy thinner to make a convenient dilution but care should be taken that good build up is made by subsequent coats too resulting in good deposition.
Caution: Over diluting would result in a sag and run downs.
