Is South Africa heading for an
infrastructure disaster? Wherever
one goes the metal structures are
rusting. Electric pylons, electric
gantries, substation infrastructure,
step-down transformers poles
and electrical DB boxes all show
signs of rust. Acid rain attacks all
metal structures used to erect
infrastructure and the normal
anti-corrosive methods only
provide a temporary solutions.
Hot dipped galvanising does
not stop the corrosion caused
by acid rain as the zinc coating
is not resistant to acid. Many epoxy coatings and paints do not last very long either in
severe UV environments of South Africa. In South Africa infrastructure is being built, such
as new generation facilities in the electrical environment, railways with electrical gantries,
telecommunications with metal towers, etc. All these environments make extensive
use of steel structures and all of them are being corroded by acid rain. The question
is how do we protect these steel structures? There is a solution to the problem. proudct
was designed as an anti-corrosive coating to protect all metal substrates including
infrastructure steel. It is a room temperature vulcanising (RTV) silicone rubber coating
and is especially effective to protect metal and steel against acid rain, salt crystals,
other corrosive chemicals and UV and ozone exposure. It can be used in conditions
with huge temperature * is not affected by acids or corrosive chemicals;
it is waterproof and will not allow moisture to penetrate to the *use it is
flexible and can stretch thus compensating for expansion and contraction in extreme
weather conditions it can be used in a wide temperature range. It does not crack
and does not deteriorate due to UV exposure. Application of the product is easy and
can be done by brush, rolling or airless spray pump. It is also available in aerosol for
a touch-up on site. The coating is a moisture cure product. A two-coat application
is needed and it must conform to the minimum dry film thickness (DFT) of 0,26 mm.
